Air filter - clean or replace?
Hi guys. So as much as I can tell my GZ has had a diaphragm failure of the petcock. I am going to replace the petcock, oil filter, spark plug and obviously do an oil change. The questions I have are: do I need to replace the (stock) air filter, or just clean it; and is there anything else I need to do to additionally? The bike has been sitting for a few months and I'm just now getting around to dealing with this. Do I need to clean the tank and / or carb?

I'm not sure if it was originally wet. After it died that day, I parked it, and hadn't had a chance to get back to it until now. So would you recommend changing it then? Thanks for the reminder about the in-line filter.

Remove the air filter and tap it on a hard surface to remove any dust/dirt etc. Remember it is a reverse air flow with the GZ so you have to inspect the inside of the filter. That is where it will be the most dirt laden. If you can shine a flashlight through the filter it is likely okay. If in doubt just replace it. The GZ loves a little TLC.
Ditto on the inline fuel filter. You may want to run a little Seafoam through the bike to clean up any deposits in the tank and carb. Do this after you do the fuel filter as a safety precaution in case any real grunge breaks loose in the tank. Happy motoring. |

Instructions on the container for dosage. Any auto parts store should carry it. If not, a marine shop will have it. Store the rest in a real safe place. It is likely lethal to kids and pets. Top shelf and out of sight.
