Trouble getting to my spark plug

Hey guys,

I recently bought a new spark plug and a set of spark plug sockets 3/8 of an inch drive. I removed the cylinder head cover and removed the spark plug wire boot, exposing the existing plug. The problem I am having is that when I put the socket over the plug to remove it, my socket is so short that is falls and I am unable to grip it. The black bar that the cylinder head connects to is at the perfect height to make fitting a wrench or my hand in nearly impossible. And one of the bolts that holds that bar in place is too close to another part of the cylinder for me to remove it. Any suggestions on how to get at the plug more easily?

You can use a short extension between the plug socket & the ratchet.

Or if you only have longer extensions... just take the gas tank off

That's what I wound up doing, but I wound up getting pretty used to popping the tank on and off.

Agreed, it's much easier with the tank off. Also, you should be able to take that black bar off without much problem if you've got a 2" extension.

You need a deeper socket! Since the one you have does not go down far enough to seat on the plug that is the only logical explanation... I've had that same situation and I purchased a deep well plug socket on eBay....

Check the tool bag that comes with the bike there is a spark plug tool in there.

The plug wrench in the tool kit works perfectly, if you have the kit that came with the bike. That's all I use to replace the plug.
