Question Engine swap - suggestions?

Hey guys!

My brother is gifting to me a schnazzy little 2001 GZ250. The engine is a goner so step 1 here is to find a replacement, but my searches are coming up thin (all I can find is one with a knock that is half the price of the bike itself).

Any suggestions on where to locate one for this badboy? Of course it doesn't HAVE to be from the same bike, if anyone is familiar with other engines that fit that would be fine.

Also if anyone is aware of a DIY guide that is appropriate for the GZ250, that would be excellent! Another search of mine with few results.

Looking forward to joining the community, you'll probably see me here again. Embrace the day!

ebay is your best bet for a used engine.

Do the years have to match or be within a certain range to use the GN250?

BTW, you say the engine is bad, do you know what exactly is wrong with it?
