Just curious. Where are you getting a 10 amp draw if you're just triggering the coil to close the circuit?

Exactly. WW you have a 10 amp fuse but that doesn't mean this circuit draws 10 amp continuously.
The circuit probably only draws 2A max inasfar as I know solenoids.
The 10A fuse is just there to blow in case there is a short circuit.

If you have a multimeter, try to figure out the coil resistance, then you will know for sure if 18 gauge wire is good.

Basically I plan on removing a 10 amp fuse from one of the fuse panels and creating a switched, fused line for manual control. All I am really doing is moving the fuse to a different location and adding a switch. I have the correct OEM fuse location etc. The hardest part will be bending my old body down into the footwell under the steering wheel to run the wiring through the firewall. And of course the ambition to put this plan into action.

THE DEED IS DONE.................. my switch idea works great and exactly as intended. Had a stiff sore back this morning so I figured it couldn't get much worse. So much for optimism and an old body. I had a bad time trying to crawl under the steering wheel and such but it worked after a lot of planning and breaks for a stand up position to ease the pain. Old age is not for wimps.

Wisdom is not automatic with age. I could have taken some meds before the task and eased the pain.
