I'm I pushing my luck or I'm I an idiot

Bike has 14+ miles on it, last time I had the valve clearace checked was at 6K, my mechanic says that I sould check at 20K as I do nut push the bike. I do plan on getting them checked at about 15K as I need a new tire and brake pads on front and back. Have many of you had valves that needed adjustment, prior to 14K, considering I had them checked at 14K?

Are you pushing your luck - yes, valves should be cheked every 3,000 miles. Do them ASAP!

Are you an idiot - no, because if you were, you would not have any concerns about it, and you do, therefore.

Trust me, check your valves regularly otherwise it takes a lot of time and just as much money to get that bike back on the road.

+1

As the valve train wears the clearance decreases. As the clearance decreases the percentage of time the valve is closed decreases. As the time the valve is closed decreases the operating temperature of the valve increases. As the valve's temperature increases the propensity to stick increases. If the valve sticks you will be looking at replacing the piston and valve at the very least.

So, adjust those valves early and often!
