Short commute
I currently drive only 1.4 miles to work (each way), How long should I warm the engine before I go. I've checked the motor when I get to work and its not even warm yet. The gz is so much fun I drive out of my way to put on more miles!

Re: Short commute
A short drive is considered severe conditions to an engine. The engine never gets up to operating temps and the oil never gets up to a proper temp either. By all means go out of your way and smell the flowers on the way. The bike will thank you for the added exercise.

Re: Short commute
My routine for start up and go was something like this.
Start the bike, check all the lights for proper function, check horn, zip up jacket, strap on helmet, gloves and ride off. Just a couple minutes of warm up and you should be ready to go. Just back of the choke a little as the engine warms up and you should be chokeless in a half mile or so. |

Re: Short commute
I roll off with the bike still using choke. As soon as you're at speed, cut off the choke. The bike needs to be run on it's own and it will warm up faster that way. Oil pressure at idle is not enough to properly lube the head, IMHO. Engines needs to be gushing oil all over the place in order to stay healthy.
