Easy, your remark about the Iternet made me think (finally) so I had Google do a couple searches:
GZ250 magneto: 2,330 hits (in quotes: 2 hits)
GZ250 generator: 4,220 hits (in quotes: 0 hits)
GZ250 alternator: 592 hits (in quotes: 0 hits)
GZ250 dynamo: 130 hits (in quotes: 0 hits)

Apparently less than 10% of the references are correct. And over 90% are dense and stupid. From now on I'll call it 'generator'. Oops, already did that. Stupid me

But I'm still happy Tesla invented AC

PS Sportpsyc, do the prices include shipping ? (my brake handle has a little damage)

Hi 5th_bike,
How about if you throw in an extra buck for the envelope to mail it in, and I'll pay for the mailing? If that seems fair ($15), contact me and I'll get it in the mail to you. It is an original OEM Suzuki part in the plastic, just to reiterate. Thanks for asking!

On my dirtbike, what you guys are referring to we call a stator. That could also be an acceptable name I believe. Unless I lost the ability to understand which specific item you guys are talking about.

Sort of. All 3 HAVE a stator as part of the whole assembly that makes electrical power. Part of what makes them different is that the stator is wound differently.

In the beginning, all gas engines had a magneto, and for the most part, no batteries.

As electrical needs increased, a battery was added, the device making power changed and the new device got a new name: generator.

It was later discovered that this generator device could be simpler and cheaper and more reliable if the moving mechanism produced AC and then electronically rectified and filtered for DC. That new device is (usually) called an alternator.

Three different devices, three different names.
