Auction Bike

I'm meeting a private seller tomorrow for the second time. I've scheduled a mechanic to examine the bike and report on any problems. Provided he gives it a clean bill of health, I'm paying 1500 (2005 GZ250, 14k miles). However, when I checked the VIN through carfax, I found that it was sold at auction in 2011. Is this cause for concern? The owner says it had a clean title and will furnish it tomorrow.

Re: Auction Bike

***Carfax did not report it as 'salvaged' or 'junk'. On first inspection the bike looked alright, although it had some dings and scratches from what must have been a parking lot tip over.

Re: Auction Bike

I know in PA, every couple of years, they auction off the fleet of 250's that the state owns and uses for safety courses.

Re: Auction Bike

I don't think Arizona has any gov't courses. All seem to be private.

Re: Auction Bike

Bike could have been part of a trade in at a car dealership.

A lot of times they will go to auction to turn their money in the same week, and not try to retail bikes.
