Burned my pants
Bumming a bit because I burned my TourMaster Caliber pants on the way in today. Don't normally wear these to work, but today is racquetball and my routine is to wear the pants over my court shorts. I was surprised that they burned. I thought they would be meltproof, especially in the area that could come in contact with the tailpipe.
I wondered why this had not happened before, but then I remembered - I had some stalling problems and actually had to push the bike through a left turn (and then push start it.) I sure when I was pushing it is when I touched the pants to the pipe. Have a nice hole in the pants now and a nasty blackened plastic mess on the pipe. So, don't assume just because they are reinforced motorcycle pants, they won't melt. I'm going to look for a black nylon patch kit or maybe a glue on fix. If anyone has a better idea, fire away.

Re: Burned my pants
Good thing is wasn't your skin. Most of the synthetic fabrics don't tolerate that kind of heat.
My brilliant ideas - Get the stalling problem fixed, get leather pants, stay away from the pipe, get off the bike to push it somewhere, don't try to iron on a patch. I don't think I've ever touched the pipes with my pants. I haven't burned through any jeans yet. But I have felt my boot get a little warm but not burned yet. Sorry. |

Would it be appropriate to start calling you "Hot Pants" Corcoran?
And hey, I stalled my bike today for the first time in months. I zoned and let the clutch out too much before giving it any gas. Login or Register to Remove Ads |

I hadn't ridden mine for a few days (went skiing Mon and Tues in the Suburban) and it was extra balky on the way in this morning. I have the 3K checkup coming up. If it still is crappy after that, I'll start messing with it myself.
