Clutch Release camshaft

First,

My camshaft has some vertical play. When the clutch lever is pulled, the shaft is drawn towards the ground while turning. Is this correct? The engine goes quiet while the clutch lever is pulled, but when released, there is a slight knocking sound... is this fromt he shaft?

Wondering how easy it would be to fix an oil leak in the camshaft (it leaks a little bit out the top). Is there nothing to it but replace the oil seal?

Is there a certain way the camshaft has to be out back in if it is drawn out?

The noise is a common characteristic and not a worry. No idea about the shaft itself.
