Rear Axle Replacement

I over- torqued the nut on my rear axle and stripped the threads on it and am about to replace it.

My question is, does the new/used axle need to be greased before installing?

Any other suggestions as to how to make it easiest to do will be appreciated.

Thanks.

I guess it pays to do your own research. Disregard my previous post.

Replaced the axle without any problems. While I was at it, I inspected the brake pads and cleaned out the brake dust, cleaned and inspected the sprockets for wear, checked and cleaned the spokes.

I replaced the chain and adjusted it and tightened the axle to specs. I also changed the oil and filter.

After all that, I cleaned the bike up and polished the aluminum, waxed the fuel tank, and polished the fenders and chrome.

I am pretty much ready to do some more riding once the weather is a bit more conducive for enjoyment. The winds have been intense here lately. Safe riding everyone.

Yeah any time I have a moving part like that out, I grease it before reinstallation. So far it's a rule that's served me well!

Glad to hear your GZ got some TLC. I've got a few parts to fabricate for mine before she's where I want her but I can't wait for my first downtown cruise with her!
