"New" Old Bike
OK...today I became a proud owner of a 1990 Vulcan 500.
27K miles....very nice shape....used all season by the previous owner. 24 years old and amazing condition. It rode great on the 60 mile journey from the seller's home to its winter storage. No issues, thrilling and fun! Keeping the GZ. The wife is going to take the MSF course in the spring and if she likes riding....the GZ will be perfect. Now if only our 5 months of NH winter would pass quickly..... img_20141109_122352-resized-1024 (2) by bob40caliber, on Flickr 4 (2) by bob40caliber, on Flickr Login or Register to Remove Ads |

With a little luck BB will drop in and give you some tips on the care and feeding of the Vulcan. He used one as a long distance commuter very successfully with no real problems to speak of.

There two important things with the 500.A valve adjustment is required every 7500 miles. Also the older ones had a flywheel with separate magnets that can explode & make a big mess of things. The newer 500's have a one piece magnet that eliminates this flaw. The Ninja 500 is the same.

blaine--before I start riding her next spring...it gets a valve adjustment and we'll get a look at those magnets. I understand there is a one piece replacement for them.
gz4me+ Thanks and I will. |
