bike intermittantly doesnt load when rolling on the throttle
Hi there , we have a 2001 GZ 250 with 12,000 miles on the clock. It starts well, idles well and is more than happy at 65 MPH on the flat
What it is occassionally doing , and it has been when warm , after rolling off the throttle and changing down, is when the throttle is rolled on there is nothing for say 1 to 2 seconds , then the bike kicks in and accellerates, till the next higher gear, and the same, nothing for say 1 or 2 seconds then away we go This can last for a minute or so and then goes away Of late it hasnt been happening, with a typical day being a 30 mile open road run to work each way, with some serious hill work included any thoughts appreciated cheers and thanks leroy Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Welcome. The carbs on these bikes are real fussy. You can try a good quality carb cleaner in a tank of fuel.A lot of the time it helps.

Berryman's B12 Chemtool ($2.89 a can at Walmart or Advance Auto Parts) or Seafoam ($9.99) - 1-2 oz./gal of fuel, (no more) dumped into the gas tank with the fuel. Do that every 3-4 fill-ups and you will have no further dirty carb problems (unless you have dirt or rust or something in the gas tank getting into the carb). You can prevent that with a small inline fuel filter.

The only "filter" the bike has from the factory is a crappy mesh screen. These inline filters cost about $4 and take minutes to install. This should required instruction for all new forum members Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Is it possible that the throttle cable is sticking, then letting go? This sounds like strange behavior for a carb problem.

If the cable was hanging up (stuck due to friction) it wouldn't idle down when you released the throttle.
It doesn't hurt to lube it though. |

Re: bike intermittantly doesnt load when rolling on the thro
thanks everyone, most helpfull :2tup:
The bike had been sitting for a while, but now it gets at least 3 day a week 60 mile run off to the auto shop this weekend, carb cleaner and new plug for the sake of it gave it a good go over the other day; air cleaner good; cleaning, adjusting up the chain and oiling it smoothed the bike on roll off roll on throttle. Valves fine. Cheers all leroy |
