Removing the exhaust

The exhaust on my GZ cracked where the Y pipe is welded. I have welded it back together, but not all the way around the pipe. I have to remove the exhaust to get to it and do it right.

I am having trouble getting out the left side header that is clamped into the Y pipe. I've removed the clamp bolt and soaked it down with WD-40. After that I used the grinder on the part I have welded (it needed to be ground down, and I figured the vibrations may help loosen the clamped piece). I have rapped on it solidly, but don't want to beat on it enough to bend or dent it.

Has anyone done this on an older bike? (Mine is a 2000 and is in Nevada. There is some rust, but not much.) Does anyone have any suggestions to get them separated? :roll:

I got it. :rawk: The answer was heating it with a propane torch and a a lot of gentle twisting back and forth, as well as more WD-40. (The WD was after the propane torch. The stuff that was on there caught fire and burned off when the torch was applied. :biggrin: )

Unfortunately it is getting dark now, so I will have to finish another time.

You would be better off using an actual penetrating fluid of some sort. Your local auto parts store will have something more suitable than WD-40.
