wont start without full throttle
If this has been addressed let me know
My gz250 started fine this morning ran all day to and from work after work it won't start but I did smell gas eventually I can get it to start but either it needs full throttle or be in reserve to get the engine to start once started if I don't maintain high rpms or throttle it dies I saw some posts about after the bike had been stored but mine was running all day I checked for gas it has a full tank any suggestions Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Re: wont start without full throttle
This is strange. You say that the tank is full, yet needs to be in "reserve" to get it started. Both "run" & "reserve" need engine vacuum to work, so that can't be the problem. Wonder if there could be a blockage in the tube (on the petcock, in the tank) that supplies "run"? :??:

You may need to drain the tank (easy) and inspect the petcock. I can't imagine any other way that RES would work but RUN would not.... It's most likely either debris that is clogging the RUN screen, or the RUN tube is actually damaged (less likely). Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Re: wont start without full throttle
by run screen you mean the part in the tank, right? That was my initial thought... like a piece of cloth/paper something got in the tank during the last fill-up. still wont account for needing the throttle wide open even on reserve tho... that sounds like maybe w/e clogging the run screen could be inside?? Either way doesnt sound fun

update this morning it started on run and choke on but now revs really high eventaully dies down then stops, then won't start again unless lots of throttle but now will start with fuel one
I am going to try draining the tank tonight and inspect for any debri or clogs |

My 3 cylinder 2 stroke 750 Suzuki (carbed)would just pick up it's revs and the pipes would snap, crackle and pop till the choke was eased off. Good for scaring kids and making dogs bark. :2tup: |

Re: wont start without full throttle
As the bike warms up with the choke on (it's not actually a choke, it's an enricher circuit) it will increase the revs, that's normal. Turn down the choke slowly as it speeds up until the choke is off. You may be running the bike very rich and it craps out and there may be nothing wrong with the bike other than the way you are using it.
While it's referred to as a choke, unlike a car with a butterfly valve in the carb to cut off the air supply and enrich the mixture, in the GZ it does nothing to the air supply but it enriches the fuel/air mixture to facilitate cold starting. When the engine is warm, you have to shut that off. The best way to use it is to start the engine, let it run for 15-30sec. then slowly drive off and let it warm up, slowly turning off the choke as you go. The choke should probably be able to be turned off within 1/2-1 mile of riding or within a few minutes. |

Re: wont start without full throttle
check your idle screw on the carb. Had something similar happen on my RGV, the idle screw had come loose.

Re: wont start without full throttle
took the bike back to the dealer I bought it from they found that the carburetor was all plugged up only bought it 2 weeks ago and they said the gas was conatminated with oil I think
but they said they would fix it no charge so I should get the bike back next week |
