Big grin with sixteen teeth.
Yesterday I went for my first trip with my GZ250 after she's been upgraded:
- new oil and filter - new tyres - 16t front sprocket - clean carburetor - greased and adjusted chain slack - new front wheel beraing - new sprocket damper Oh boy, i can tell it's a whole fucking new bike. I was cruising back from Univ and i just felt like i should take a longer and twisty road home. Brake/lean in/roll on gas, rinse and repeat. It was soooo smooth. The whole concept of torque has gained a new meaning: suddely the 1st gear seems to be useful... the 2nd all the same, 3rd and 4th last forever. In 5th i can soar at 45mph (highest legal speed in town in Italy) without the motor buzzing like a freak and the constant fear that something will break and I get the piston up my rear. If you want an advice from me: GET A 16T FRONT SPROCKET! DO IT NOW!!! And switch to synth oil Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Re: Big grin with sixteen teeth.
Congrats! I certainly agree with your results; at speeds up to 45 the new gear ratios are great. :2tup:
In many cases seen on this forum, though, people are looking for higher ultimate top speeds (70+mph), and only in special conditions is this possible with the 16T sprocket. If I did more in-town riding I would switch back to the 16T but I like to ride in the mountains and in the wind (we have a lot of it around here) and for that I find the 15T sprocket is better. Not taking anything away from you, Slagugglan, just a caveat to the others here on what to expect on the interstates, on hills, in headwinds. Cheers! And let's see some photos of your beautiful countryside! :2tup:

Re: Big grin with sixteen teeth.
Yep I agree to that... i've noticed some kind of "overdrive" sensation when I hit 60 mph or something...
But still i never felt confortable at 70, nor at 65 mph... The little thumper was just too thumpy. No risk of overrevving or something like that? |

Re: Big grin with sixteen teeth.
remember max power is @ 8000 rpm red-line @ 8500 rpm. 45 mph = 4500 rpm when computed to feet / min 60 mph is 2400 ft/min not much less than a Harley which turns less rpm 3000 rpm but has a 4 inch stroke.
