Re: suzuki s50

Need to know what the volt meter says about the real voltage.

The battery could be so bad there is really no juice in it.

Sounds like he has a bad connection somewhere between the battery & starter,Check that all connections are clean & tight between battery, solenoid, and starter.

Re: suzuki s50

I agree with JWR. I used to have a Jeep Cherokee and when I heard clicking sounds and saw the lghts weak or flickering, I knew it was a weak battery. Maybe your friend THINKS he fully charged the battery, you don't really know until you get the trusty multimeter and check it out. Also, I saw a few times that loose or dirty cable connectors would prevent it from starting.

Clean the battery poles and the cable connectors with a wire brush.

I hope this helps.

Re: suzuki s50

He took the battery out and tested it when this happened last week.. I think it said 11.4 . He charged it for 3 days and the bike ran for the rest of the week until tonight.

With a reading that low,the battery needs replacing.

Re: suzuki s50

Yeah. If it ran after a good long charge, and then died again, then it's not recharging while he rides.

The problem is most likely the battery or the "generator". And batteries are the weak chain in that equation.

Re: suzuki s50

The battery has to be fully charged (should read 12.6-12.8v) and then be load tested to see if it's any good.
You can test the bike's charging system by starting the bike with a fully charged battery and measuring the voltage at the battery terminals at around 2500-3000rpms, and it should be ~14v +/-.
The battery on the S50 is a little hard to reach and get test probes on, and a PIA to remove. Tell him to put battery charging leads on it if he exposes the battery so it's easy to charge with an external charger - you just plug it on.
