Popping Sound

After the bike worms up..and I have rode it for a while. If I then start it back up lets say within 20 minutes. I hear a kind of popping sound. This only happens on a very warm start not when its cold or started overnight. Is this common? Its kinda of a pinging sound..just oncew then it settles into it's idle...I get distressed about these things cause there is no one in central ohio that i can trust to fix motorcycles!

Thanks

Re: Popping Sound

im having a hard time following you, any abnormal noise is a bad thing, but the question is, is what your hearing abnormal? does it sound like a knock and only happen once right as the bike is starting? my bke does this and i never thought it was anything wrong. it will also make a similar noise if you dont slip the clutch enough taking off up a hill or with a heavy load. i think its fuel knock. but under those limited circumstances aint much you can do. am i in the ballpark?

Re: Popping Sound

Does it do this momentarily after you release the starter button. Might be the starter disengaging when the motor is warm. If so don't worry, be happy. Just guessing of course.

Re: Popping Sound

Yes Geezer..thats it exactly,,just one realy quick sound then it starts right up. I don't think it's metal cause it still runs fine. I thought it might just be fuel. Thanks :2tup:

Re: Popping Sound

cool then dont worry about it. but if you wanted to try using a higher octane fuel and see if it makes a diference. cause heres the thing a knock is a knock. and knocks are bad! i for one will not do this as i cant stand the thought of putting in midgrade or premium!
