Just took a deposit on my GZ... have a few questions

Well, someone looked at my GZ last night and put a deposit down. They are supposed to give me the rest of the money this week. We settled on $1600. From looking around I think that is a fair price for an 01 with 5,000 miles, windshield and sissy bar.

I was wondering if, now that the deposit is down, should I just park the bike and not ride it, or is it fine to just keep riding it until he gives me the rest of the money? We have a 100 mile ride scheduled for Saturday, and if he hasn't paid by then I don't want to miss it.

Also, what is normal practice as far as returning deposits in case it falls through? My understanding has always been if you back out, you lose your deposit, but I didn't tell the buyer that.

A deposit ONLY prevents you from selling to someone else; it is still your bike, ride it !!

Seller defaults for cause, deposit goes back. (Just changing your mind is not "cause").

Buyer defaults regardless of reason, seller keeps the deposit.......assuming it was something reasonable, like $100.

Remember, cash only.......unless you know the buyer somehow.

Makes sense. The deposit was $100 check. I did tell him if I got a check I'd hold the bike until the check cleared. Looks like I'll be going on that ride unless he pays for the bike and has it before then, which isn't a bad thing.

I'm loving it.....kind of. Weather has been crap since I got it.
Leaving for Atlanta tomorrow and I'm just not QUITE ready to take it on the road yet.
