hey easy thanks for the info re: air filter I also thought that the manual was incorrect.

IT WAS THE FLOAT !!!!! reset float, there was a pool of fuel & oil mixture in the air box..........may have to replace air filter...have a feeling the element could be saturated, even after setting it out in the sun for a while and blowing off with compressed air. will now change oil and road test again..take plug reading . .thanks to all .

Oil blow-by in the air filter housing is normal. I've never seen gasoline in there before, but my bike is newer than yours.

K&N filter SU-5589 should work, if you wanted to replace the filter.

By the way, remember that it works but you MUST recarb the bike! It's not just a replacement for the stock filter.
