California had the big gold rush in 1849, and some of those guys had to be over 50 when they went out there. Of course, if you really want old boneyards, look around the Spanish missions. Some of them go back to the 1600's, maybe earlier - I forget.

Oklahoma is probably hopeless, I must admit. As Patrick says, mostly Native Americans until after the war, and they didn't leave headstones.

Not sure I'd put much hope in a Civil War cemetery. Those were mostly young men that died in the 1860's.

I guess I made this harder than I intended to. We don't seem to have active members in the older parts of the country. I don't have a problem with moving the date up farther, say 50 years, but I don't know if the rules allow me to do that.

Why not just say "the oldest gravestone you can find"?

Yes, probably easy enough.

Weather is cold again in many parts of the US; that will slow things down a bit.

This time of year, I think the 3 day "expiration" is a little short......and I don't think I understand the wording of that rule anyway.

If this goes long enough, maybe it will spur me to actually find my great-grandfather's grave. I know which cemetery it is supposed to be in but it's rather large. Finding one born before 1800 shouldn't be too hard......if you can actually READ the stone. I'm guessing that anything before 1800 in lots of places might not even have been stone......and wood would be long gone.

[edit] seems like we have it solved now.

If no one finds a tag in 3 days, the original tagger can now play.

He finds a tag to match his tag then makes another new tag.

Re: Tag-o-rama Gone Global

I would have mixed feelings about following up on my own tag after 3 days. At least one participant has clearly stated that he's made an effort, and probably will continue to do so now that the definition of the tag has been relaxed to the point where it shouldn't be hard at all. I'm sure others have at least made some effort. At this point it's any gravestone, as long as it's as old as the oldest one you think you are likely to find. How hard is that? Every town pretty much worldwide has a cemetery. If, honestly, the oldest gravestone anywhere near you is dated 2009, then go for it.

I guess if it drags on and on and no one can find a grave anywhere, and people want me to put an end to it, then I will. But I think, after people have made an effort already, someone else really should "get the kill" as it were.

Yep. Me too.
Our short history would already indicate that they usually aren't going to sit very long.
This one had a "false start" so it isn't a good example.
I've got some landscaping work that HAS to be done today or I'd have it already.
I get to ride my tractor instead of the bike.

Re: Tag-o-rama Gone Global

The internet found a Mr. William Brickley, that fought in the Civil War, but I could not find him.

Hey now, those aren't "people"...they're bikers! I think with that tag, this California girl is going for a ride tomorrow.

Re: Tag-o-rama Gone Global

Well, I tried to loosen the quest from bikers and bikes to just people at the tables.

In the theme of the quest, go for it.

I hope to get some of our International members to play...

Have fun.
