Question GZ 250 2008 spewing oil and smoke.

I bought a GZ 250 as a project for cheap used came with lots of extra parts, everything inside seems in good shape.

I recently re-did the top end with new gaskets and rtv thinking the problem was with bad leaking gaskets, it always smoked before I bought it hence why I got it for cheap. The amount of smoke is large and oil comes out the pipe black, the smoke is white, I've adjusted the tappets to .005-in they where all over the place before, I just wanted to redo them quick, I'll check my service manual and do them again very soon to the right clearances.

I am not sure what to try next, some say piston rings could be the problem but I'd like to hear what you all think could be the problem.

You need to do a compression test on the engine. Otherwise you are shooting in the dark.

I would love to but I don't have the tool, I can go get one. What exactly would I be looking for in terms of psi.

I'm going to check the valve seals after if I do a compression test.

Normal Compression is 142 to 199 PSI. The lower limit is 114 PSI

I would change the valve stem seals. Not really hard to do just don't drop a valve. Make sure you are on tdc.
