Hi Grumpy, glad to have you join us. Do you have your bike license yet? If not then be sure to take riding lessons. Knowledge is power. I suggest picking up a copy of "Proficient Motorcycling" by David Hough. It is just chalk full of riding info and things to do and not do. I learned a lot from reading it and I know you will too.

Welcome to the forum!! If you are like me, you are going to really like your GZ. I wish you lots of fun and safe riding. WW2 is right about taking a rider course. It will help you develop your skills and good riding habits. I am not sure how your insurance companies are in Canada, but here in Nevada the course will lower your insurance rates as well. Ride safe.

Tire pressures. Chain slack. Adjust foot controls for your personal comfort and ease of use. Check all lights for function. Did you get an owners manual with the bike? Maintenance history? How many kms on the bike? |

Yeup...I need to the cables this week...but so far
tires are newer..yeah! Front tire 6psi, rear tire 8psi...25 and 33 now according to ManWual Oil...ectoplasm ooze. Changed 20-50 Gas about a year old , drained , beginning sea foam treatment and will change oil again in 4 tanks (about a full can of Sf) After the SF treatment and a new oil filter and air filter..(wow those are a pita to find here!) I'll run a new plug and see how its burning. Only thing I've noticed its a odd...pulse It's like a harmonic in the exhaust at about 45-50kmh I can hear it but not feel it and I'm wondering if anyone else hears that ? Basic bone stock with no add-on holes in the exhaust right now. Thanks for the tach write up, I've got a 3" 12k rpm ebay coming and I just found the 3 led idiot light dash thing...Lots to read ! What is redline on this bike.. and an egt if anyone knows it ?

The tach will tell you about 8,000 before it runs out of power. Idle speed is about 1,200rpm. You will find the bike is real happy to go 100/105 km on the road. That leaves a little speed and power in reserve but don't count on it uphill or into a headwind.
My wife Lynda rode her GZ to the far side of Manitoba and back with nary a problem. She took me along to lube the chain for her. lol. I was on a Vstrom at the time. I presently have a 2014 Honda CTX700. |
