Oil Leak from spark plug

Hello, this is my first bike. (2000 gz250) I learned the hard way about checking fluid levels. My bike overheated and died due to low oil. I was worried I had trashed the engine but I check the compression and it's just over 150psi. I am leaking oil and it seems to be coming from the spark plug or at least that area. I had originally thought it was the valve cover gasket. I checked the torque specs and tightened everything down (per some advice I got from a motorcycle mechanic) but the leak is still there, seems to be leaking more than before.

Any advice what to check? Would I still get good compression if it were bad valve seals?

Re: Oil Leak from spark plug

HI take a good look where the cyclinder head cover is & the head mates to it you may & or will see oil along the seam that is the leak take the cover off & clean the surface of it & reseal it using
the suzuki sealer only do not bead it on smear a coat of it on the head cover side note use 91%
isopropyl alcohol to clean it, youll see it dripping down the side to look like its from the spark plug hole also if the oil is black after oil change & rode about 100 miles and it becomes low than you have lose head bolts than think about pulling the head off & check for a crack in the spark plug hole its a lot of work but its worth it. mine was a streached cam chain so I had to tear it down .
first check for oil dripping down need more help email & suzukix668@yahoo.com

Re: Oil Leak from spark plug

Well I was taking the cylinder head cover off when one of the bolts broke off, half the threads in each part. This is just my luck...

And now he will just become a fading memory for all of us. At least he didn't do any real damage to life and limb of any newbies.
