starter switch bad?

just need some trouble shooting tips. I think its the starter switch. when i pull the clutch in, the start button does nothing. If I wiggle the clutch a little bit it eventually fires up. could there be a short in the clutch or the switch itself. thank for the help in advance.

Re: starter switch bad?

Not a short, but a bad (not properly functioning) contact.

Search these forums for "contact cleaner" and you will come across similar posts.

Re: starter switch bad?

This happened with mine. Look between the clutch lever and grip. You'll see the button that closes when the clutch is pulled in. Get a can of spray contact cleaner, and give the button a good spraying. Work the clutch a few times to get the cleaner penetrating, then give it another spray. This did the trick for me, so try this, first, before you start dismantling anything. If it doesn't work for you, you've not lost anything by trying the easy way first.
