Front Brake Change
Hi all!
It has been a long time since I have been on. Been busy riding and at work. I've also been working on a blog dedicated to my experiences motorcycling. I wrote a How-To Change Your Front Brake Pads article and I thought I might share it with you all since it seems nobody has shared one yet. Here is the link: http://www.motorcycleaddiction.ca/?p=143 Please let me know what you think and if there is anything I could improve to make it clearer. Thanks! And I hope you all are doing well! Re: Front Brake Change
Well done Dave. Excellant pics and dialogue. The only thing I would suggest is using a torque wrench that is a bit smaller and with the required settings being in the middle of it's range for more accuracy.
This should be a "Sticky" for future reference. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and safety concerns. Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Re: Front Brake Change
Hey! Awesome, man.
Do you mind if I make this into a real How-to here on the site, or do you prefer the traffic go directly to your page? I can link you directly and then just copy all of your data here too... Hell, you could do it if you wanted. But I won't take it without your approval. |

Hi!
Yes. You have my permission. I don't mind if you turn it into a real How-To post and copy all the information as long as you include the link to my blog somewhere. I think the photos might be a little too big so I was going to repost the article on my blog with compressed versions. Is there anything you need me to do to help turn it into a How-To? Thanks for the kind words. I hope that the post can help people feel more comfortable changing their brakes. Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Re: Front Brake Change
Nope, you don't need to do anything aside from give your blessing.
I'll host the photos and resize them to make them fit nicely on the page and to save bandwidth for the site. Thanks. You'll get all the credit. |

Thank you Dave Dark for the excellent tutorial and pics!!! Wow, changed my brake pads for the first time and your pics and explanations (and the fun humorous comments) were invaluable. I was really frustrated with getting the pad mounting bolt through the pads and spent quite a bit of time doing that, but I remembered your comments about patience. Whoosh, not one of my virtues, but I am learning.
I had about 2,000 miles on my old pads and, even though it looked like there was a little more life in them, I wanted to do the change since I was practically on metal last time at three thousand miles. I made the mistake of getting the caliper back on the rotor without it being between the pads. I am so happy I checked before I pumped the brakes and got the piston extended, it was a bit of a hard time getting it flush to put the new pads in. It feels good to have done the job and I know that I could not really have done it with only the service manual instructions. Awesome how-to!!! Thanks again. |
