Chrome removal
I wanted to know if anyone here knew of a easy way to remove chrome from the rims for a proper painting. I want to do something to match the color of the bike as well as remove rust.
Tools I have include: handheld abrasive blast gun 10lb portable soda blaster dual action sander wire wheels for drill bench grinder cleaning prep pads for an air grinder hand files steel wool sandpaper I am looking for the easiest method of removing finish to bare surface... i have many more tools those are just what i think of when it comes to surface preps and finish removal. thank you in advance! :rawk: Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Re: Chrome removal
well Jerry's link provided a method and i found a few more on that site but they all look like a lot of work. I just hate that there is rust on the rims and I am not willing t by a chromium set up to fix them....
Thus far my thinking is hit em from afar with glass bead from the abrasive blaster to rough it up enough that the soda dont just roll off the top of the chrome and then use the powder blaster to remove the chrome from the wheel in a fail swoop. But that might not be enough to get that chromium off also thought about a rough up with a wire wheel at low speeds on the drill, brass brush then follow with soda... |
