Here's a nifty little site that I just found.

Just in case anyone is planning a multi-state trip and is curious about different motorcycle laws in different states. Very nicely done!

Strangely enough, I'll be going through your fair state and I have a question.

Looks like you are on the wrong side of B'ham but are you by any chance familiar with the US 78/278 corridor running across the north?
I had originally planned to take 278 but now have about decided to use 78 instead 'cause I'll be there on the 3rd day (last) of my trip and probably will want to just get to Atlanta without a lot of "twisties".......which it looks like 278 would be.

Thanks for the posted info. and for any advise you might have on my route.

Have not been on either 78 or 278, however, you can check this place out: http://www.motorcycleroads.us/ I took a look at the northern AL listings, and they give this:

↔ US 278 - Hamilton to Gadsden - 129 miles - "Great twisties, scenic, and sweeping turns..."

Nothing listed for 78, and nothing for the rest of 278. I can't say what to ride, of course, but I can say that if you have the time, the bit of northern AL that I have seen is absolutely beautiful. If you've got the time, I'd say go for it!

Thanks. I saw that too, after I made my post. 129 miles covers most of it.
Since this will be the 3rd day of my trip and I'll probably be more inclined toward just getting there, I think 78 would be a better choice. Looks like it is 4-lane a good part of the way.
