"Dear God" letter and the USPS
One day the clerks at the post office were sorting through some undeliverable mail when they came across an envelope addressed simply to "God". There was no return address on the outside of the envelope so in an attempt to find the sender they opened the letter.
In thin, frail writing the letter read, "Dear God, I am a 90 year old widow and it looks as though I will be 100 dollars short on my mortgage payment this month and will surely lose my house, can you please help me?" Moved to tears by the old woman's plight the postal workers took up a donation, raising 90 dollars in just one afternoon. They then sealed the envelope back up with the donated cash inside, and finding her return address in the contents of the letter, delivered it to the woman's mailbox. Several days later they came upon another envelope, again addressed simply to "God." Opening the letter to reveal it's contents they found the following note written in the same frail handwriting: "Dear God, thank you so much for your effort in answering my letter. However it still looks as though I will lose my home......Those sons of bitches at the post office stole ten bucks!" Login or Register to Remove Ads |
