The Bike Almost Dropped by It's Self!
Started the baby up this morning, left it idling to warm up, all of a sudden the bike just stopped! In my mind I was saying this bike is brand new, seems the bike jumped into 2nd gear by itself! (Must of vibrated into 2nd) I have to assume the safety shut of switch saved me from... Just a warning to all to be aware this might happen to you, I am going to make sure the bike is securely in neutral, next time (If that is at all possible) I was not on the bike at the time. Am I the only person this has happened to?

Apparently.
Was it in neutral all the way, with the neutral light on? On a fast idle? How long was it idling before this happened? If it's new, I would go back to the dealer and have him make sure all the linkages and clutch are properly adjusted. |

Fast idle, yes as I was using the choke to fire the engine up and keep it running. (To warm up) Have a gut feeling you are right about the linkage. Think it has to do with neutral light being on, while the bike is very close to being in second and the vibration kicked the transmission into 2nd! Will mention to Dealer. Thanks for your input. :2tup: Login or Register to Remove Ads |

The funny thing is that I then tried to MAKE it do that and couldn't. I think it is a fluke. And yes, the side-stand safety saved your butt. Everyone who is considering disabling that safety should read your story.

(Last bikes I owned were '72's.) You are so right I now very much appreciate the safety feature, until today found little use for it. What will they think of next? Do all GZ250's have this feature? :2tup: Login or Register to Remove Ads |

The REAL reason for the side stand safety was to prevent a brain-cramped rider from moving off with the stand down...........which can throw you off like a bucking horse the first time you lean a little to the left. Yes, all bikes have that, along with the clutch safety which keeps you from starting it in gear and the clutch engaged.........since about 1980 or so.
