Went for a 180 mile ride yesterday

Last week Caltrans opened the Angeles Crest Highway all the way through. It's a road that runs along the spine of the San Gabriel Mountains for 60+ miles--all twists and turns. Busy had a trip report for part of it a while back. A chunk of it has been closed for 4 or 5 years due to storm damage, but now it's open and local bikers are rejoicing. I played hooky Friday to hit it before the holiday crowd.

Here's a scenic shot from the crest.

Here's a motorcycle dot.

Guys on bikes.

Here's my Nighthawk at one of the higher points along the road.

Hey great pictures, what beautiful scenes! You bike looks really good too! How does the nearly 8,000 ft elevation affect the motor, notice any changes?

Mr. Moedad...
Looks like you had a day at the mountain.
Nice photos...
How did you got those moments, it looks great...
Especially, thanks for the trike photo, because I had in mind of it for my bike....ha ha ha.
It give me some positive possibilities for my bike,,,ha ha ha (I hate wind while I'm riding two wheels...)
Thanks for the information about road openning, I want to finish them with bike in the near future.

Wow! Looks like a great ride! How'd you like those twisties?

Just curious, what other bikes were you riding with? Couldn't tell very well from the photos.

I just picked a tight curve where riders were leaning and waited for bikes to come by. The shots are cropped to make them look closer than they were.

I stopped for a couple of hours to have lunch with a friend who is the director of a church camp up there. The camp is at 6,000 ft, give or take. When it was time to go again, I had to use the choke differently upon starting than I do down at sea level, but other than that, once it was warmed up again I didn't really notice any differences.

The twisties were awesome! If I wasn't so lazy, I'd post a map thing like Busyweb and other people do and you could see the route. I'm if you googled Angels Crest Highway, you'd find a map. As far as the other bikes, I was solo and was "focused" on taking pictures, so I didn't pay much attention to what those guys were riding.
