Hi gang, glad I found this place. You can bet I will be visiting often. I have been riding a 2005 GZ since last August and loving it. I returned to riding after a long absence ( my first was a Honda CB 200 back in the mid 70's). I am sure I will find this site helpful and informative and I look forward to future discussions. I do not plan any modifications at this time, my main interest now is fun basic transportation. I was impressed by the gas milage reported here. I get 60/mpg but if I can up it I would certainly listen to any advice. Thanks for a great site.

Hey there, welcome to the forum. Seems you are part of the 'baby boomer' uprising returning to motorcycling Theres many just like you who have taken a long hiatus from riding.

As for the mpg ... alot has to do with how heavy you are on that throttle, where you are riding it and the weight you put on it. 60mph is still ALOT compared to most bikes.

60mpg

I'm not complaining about 60mpg, just wondering if I can better it. The guy I bought the bike from was into trying to improve the milage. I don't know what all he did but I do know he went so far as to change the primary sprocket.

You should be able to better it. I averaged about 70mpg and i know others here get 90. I was hard on my throttle and also did some mods that sucked the life out of the mileage too. I also did alot of back road and city riding which didnt help.

Welcome to the forum. Yes, milage varies due to many factors but I would expect a little better than 60mpg. Our GZ milage seems to jump around a bit but then one tank might be used for around town and another for a trip. We look at the over all average that is generally about 70mpg.

Cheers!

I havent did anything to my little gz250 and I average between 72-77 mpg, depending on where I am riding and how much shifting I am doing.
