Bike won't stay running.

Hi All.
I recently purchased a 2001 GZ250 as a beginner bike to learn to ride on. After the first few weeks of having it, it ran fine, and now I can't keep it started.
When I start the bike I have to hold the throttle all the way open to get it going and it stalls as soon as I release it to an idle. Any suggestions on where to begin on figuring out my issue?
