new battery no power at all, what next?

okay hopefully some wiser motrcycling heads that i.. total noob pretty much when it comes to fixing bikes.. will be able to help me

i have a gz250 that has been stood for 6 months.... i changed the battery..... and no power still on turning the key, nothing , no neutral light no anything

my gut says check fuses and that the problem must be electrical in nature ... wiring diagram may be the first step

any and all help appreciated
