Never try to kick a dog while riding. That is a sure fire way to become unbalanced and crash. Tuck your legs and feet in as close as possible. The dog already has a moving target so why make it easier for him.

In general I think it is a herding instinct that makes dogs prone to chase bikes, motorcycles, people who run and all those other ways of getting about. I sure hope to be elsewhere when one of our local skateboarders is going downhill on the highway at 60 mph and finds a herd dog out for a walk. Sumbody gonna get hurt big time.
