Fuel Stabiliser

A question about fuel stabilisers.

If you have a bike that is used infrequently enough that a tank of fuel could last anywhere from three to six months or more, would this be a case for adding fuel stabiliser on a more or less permanent basis. Does the stuff have any effect on the way the engine would run or is it ok to add it to every tank full?

May be a dumb question but something I have wondered about.
