Most folks (even some electricians) call ANY defect a "short" when most really aren't. In that case, you need to take it apart far enough to see what the real cause of the problem IS. Then maybe it makes sense to fix it and maybe not. Would not be too smart to buy a new switch if the only problem is a loose screw or a little dirt on the contacts (for example). I don't think anybody here has reported a similar problem.
