Starter wont engage or crank over engine!

New to the forum and this is a new bike to me. Was told when i bought it, all it needed was new starter and it would start by push starting it. So i bought it home and yes woth fresh gas in it and a full pulls/pushs around the street, it fired and ran(NOT VERY WELL BUT FIRED RIGHR UP). So i order a new starter off the interweb and just got it yesterday, so i hurry up installed it. Went to crank it and nothing, the silidoide clicks and its spending something in the starter spins but doesnt even come close to turning over the engine. Almost sounds like a power drill rotation noise. Dont know if i did something wrong or theres a bigger issue. Any help would b awesome and thanks.
