Well, actually you don't. If you put a drop or two of oil in the little slide bar that actually does the locking.....put the seat in the proper position......and then push down on the back firmly, or give it a good thump, it should snap into the locked position. :rawk:

Afterthought: If it doesn't work that way, you may have a missing spring or a sticky lock mechanism.
