I will never knock a scooter. They serve a purpose and folks travel thousands of miles on them during a trip. I will however knock the riders of scooters when they fall into a mind set of the LAW does not apply to scooters. Same as motorcycle riders think the law is just a suggestion.
Scooter riders travel just like moto riders without all the shifting.

my first mode of transportation was a 1987 Honda elite 150 scooter. I rode that thing everywhere and 2 up a lot of the times. it was a real fun ride. I sold it to get money for a car , 83 Honda civic. I was about 50 lbs lighter back then too. I solder my sister my Honda elite 80 last November and she loves riding it all over Charleston s.c.

I have no problem with scooters, I have a problem with the 12 yr olds who ride them in the middle of the street pretending they are adults. Or the ones who will ride it on a county highway and swerve back and forth.

When gas realy jumped up a few years ago the number of scooters exploded around here. So did the number of scooter related accidents.

yeah. I had an accident on my elite 150. I was going around a curve to fast and hit some sand, the back wheel slid out then gripped the road and flipped me and the scooter down the road. no major damage to me or the scooter. there are more mopeds than scooters around here. here you can get your motorcycle license on any bike over 50cc. I got mine on the elite80 scooter.

This might be a dumb question but whats the difference between a moped and a scooter. I assumed they were the same thing.

Moped's techincally have to have pedals. People use the words interchangeably out of habit, but they are legally different beasts.

Moped

Scooter

around here we consider a moped to be under 50cc motor, no license plate or insurance needed, just a tag saying moped on it. a scooter is above 50cc and requires a license plate and insurance like a motorcycle does.
