Would This Be a Safe Lock to Use

I'm looking into a simple cable lock to chain up my helmet and jacket when I don't want to carry it around. I've yet to find a spot on my bike for it yet but I am looking into the 6 foot cable, which could also double as a backup lock to put around a pole or whatever.

Thoughts?

Also where could I put something like this on my GZ250 to hold a helmet onto it?

Actually, the Gz has two helmet holders. Unlock and remove the seat, then you'll see the holder on either side. You put the helmet ring over the holder, replace the seat, and your helmet is held in place.

Good find. Except doesn't work for a full face helmet. Not enough slack on my helmet ring thing.

I have a full face helmet and use something similar to secure it. I put the helmet through the handlebar end and thread the lock through the helmet and the centre section of the handlebars.

I've used a similar chain lock for the last 10 years for my bicycle. I'm amazed every season that I suddenly remember the combination.

Find any large loop on the bike and use that. It should be long enough to go through the rear wheel spokes and up around the rear seat. Anyone who wants to steal your stuff would have to have some serious gumption.

Locks are good and bad. We used to successfully use a couple light bicycle looks to secure our riding gear to a bike rather than wear it around on a hot day. Running the cable throught the arm and leg of the gear and then to the bike. Same for a full face helmet if the helmet lock wasn't used. At the time the bike had a small lockable trunk for gloves and smaller stuff like a tank bag.
The only locking device I really really hated was the larger coiled motorcycle lock. These darn things have a will of their own and are a battle to actually use. They insist on staying coiled up.
Locks help to keep your stuff safe but no lock will stop a determined badass. Just find a lock that is easy and comfy to use for your intended purposes and trust it will deter the badass and he will go to easier pickings.

I always buy a large rear trunk for all of my bikes for this very purpose. At the very least it needs to be big enough for a helmet. You can lock your stuff in there and go. Much more convenient, and I think secure, than a cable lock.

I use a full face helmet and it works fine for me. Just took a little bit of thinking to figure out how to get it to work the first time and after that - ez pz.

This is pretty much what I do as well. Set the helmet on the throttle side handlebar. Run the lock through my helmet and down through the forks.

Now comes a potentially silly question. What is a helmet ring? I wondered how I was suppose to use the helmet lock on the GZ and never figured it out. My Vulcan has a helmet lock, but I don't use it. Once again, can't figure it out.
