Re: Dollar Shave Club.......

I thought I might share with you guys my solution.
I buy double edge razor blades from Amazon dot com. Derby blades are good, from Sweden.
I buy 2 boxes, 100 blades in each box, for $18. Enough for 4 years worth of shaving, one blade a week. Cost breaks down to 10 cents a week. I bought the razor itself from Amazon too, a few years ago. $30. IT is a Merkur, a very good brand, it'll last me 20 yrs if I take care of it.

The soap is Colonel Conk, very good shaving soap, a 3.5 oz cake will last me about 3 months. Makes really good lather. I have sensitive skin. Costs about $3.50, breaks down to about 30 cents a week for the soap. So I can shave every day, for almost 4 yrs , it costs me about 40 cents a week.

The Old School way is good ! (for some things)

Re: Dollar Shave Club.......

How often do you guys who shave your heads get cut? Do you shave your head every day?
Now that I've been retired and have had my trimmed beard back for the past 8 years or so, I only shave every 2-3 days or whenever I have to go out to someplace special, or when I forget and then I see myself as a little grubby when I look in the mirror. A joy not to have to do it every day.

I shave daily, but shave my head about every 2 months.

Re: Dollar Shave Club.......

I hate shaving, but I've found myself doing it more often than I used to cause my beard grows in almost white now and it makes me look about twenty years older than when I'm cleanshaven (yes, I'm vain.) I use the Gillette Bend Over Until it Hurts Fusion blades/stick but I always feel a bit raped when I see the ridiculous prices (like $2-3 a cartridge.) I used to have a rig like ecr's but I have to confess - I've damn near opened an artery with that style setup more than once. I've rarely, if ever, cut myself with the Gillette For Pussies brand. But maybe the technology of the old school has improved.

Still got a lot of (grey) hair on the noggin so I don't have to eff with that yet.

My next totally inappropriate man-thread will address the heartbreak of ear hair.

Re: Dollar Shave Club.......

You haven't experienced the heartbreak of nosehair until you have it growing out of the top of your nose...

Hell YES, Eddie!

I use an old school horsehair rush and Williams mug soap with modern blades and razors.
If you guys have never experienced shaving with the mug lather, you are totally missing out. Modern shave creams and gels cannot even hold a candle to the aromatic experience and the smooth pleasure that a warm, hand-spun lather can give you.

It's infinitely better that anything you buy in a can and only take maybe 45 seconds to 1 minutes to prepare.

Seriously, give it a shot, regardless of what razor you use.
