paint remover

i had a long winded post written out but then my computer crashed and the majority of it is now beyond my memory so i'll keep this one a bit shorter

I was getting a puncture repaired and a new tire put on the other day and the mechanic spilled paint on my saddle

i'm not the confrontational type so i didn't start kicking and screaming

is there anyway i can get the paint off without....well, taking the paint off...the good paint that is?

i got some turpentine substitute stuff but my money is that it's a bit too strong

it's just white flaky paint but it's annoying me and i imagine damaging the resale value

If you's guys had any similar experience or know any tips for taking it off let me know

What kind of paint is it? Oil based, lacquer, enamel? Can you find out?
By saddle, do you mean the seat, where your butt goes? Have any pics?
Why didn't you ask them/him to remove it?

Did the mech at least acknowledge that he made a boo boo ? And what was he doing with paint near your bike ?
Don't mean to alarm you but any attempt to remove the spillage might also take off the Suzuki paint job. Suzuki is not famous for great paint. Depending on the type of paint spilled you might get lucky.

Are you get a puncture repaired. or a new tire replacement for the damaged one? You cannot repair a puncture in the sidewall off the tread, you may be able to repair a puncture in the tread area and for safety sake, put a tube inside.

If the paint is "fresh".W.D-40 will take it off,without damaging the paint underneath.

+1 for WD-40.
Also, some baby fabric softeners work good, but I don't remember which ones and I don't remember why...

By no stretch of the imagination could complaining about a mechanic spilling paint on your bike, and doing nothing about it, be called "confrontational".Asking him to remove the paint, and replacing the saddle with a new one if he failed is the LEAST you should have insisted on. Failing him doing either, "no win - no fee" solicitors are easy to find. :mad:

wd 40 - got loads of the stuff - thanks guys...but it seems like a minor problem compared to what happened today (see other post)
