I just bought this lock

Hello. I just got this from Amazon dot com. $23 including shipping. I like it, looks strong enough, I also went to Home Depot and bought 5ft of the thickest chain they had. Does anybody else have a lock like this one? Can you share your opinions with me ?

Its about 4 inches, left to right. What do you use for your bike ?

I always used the fork lock.Were are you planning to put it?If you ever jump on the bike in a hurry and forget about it,you could some real damage to the bike,or yourself.

Disc locks are compact and relatively cheap. Easy to store on the bike when riding too. Our bikes have them and offer some peace of mind. Keep in mind that a lock of any sort will usually only deter an amateur thief.

Go on to webikeworld for their video of how long it takes to cut the very hardest steel security chains, like those even 1/2" thick. Like 15 -30 secs.
If somebody wants your bike they will get it, either by cutting the chain and riding it off, or picking it up into a van or pickup.
You can also get an alarm that will beep you if someone wiggles or moves your bike.
Buy insurance and don't rely on the lock or chain
If you use the fork lock, remember it's engaged. It's no fun to try and ride away with the front fork locked. I almost did that once. Be sure to check the forks for ability to move every time you start the bike, so you don't have to unstart it, remove the key, unlock the fork with the other key on your ring, then get back on the bike and restart it again. Dummy. If you forget it's locked and you try to ride off, you may very well go down.

I have a fork lock and I use it sometimes. It came with a springy lanyard-sort of thing that I drape on my handlebars to remind me the lock is in place. Yes, I'll admit I took off in a hurry one time and ....... went down in a hurry 2 feet later.
No lock will protect your bike from the serious thief. OTOH, chances of someone going to pro lengths to steel your $1500 bike are slim, especially if it's parked for a couple of hours on a busy street in the daytime. If you're parked in an underground lot over the weekend I'd invest in more stuff and some theft-specific insurance.

All you need to cut almost any chain is a hefty bolt cutter, and anybody can get one.
There are videos posted all over the internet and You Tube showing 2 guys on a busy street pulling up in a van and picking up a bike and putting it inside and driving off.
Insurance is still your best bet, the lock and chain will only discourage some very amateur thief. They will take bikes with disc locks too as it's fairly simple to replace a wheel or brake disc if they want the bike.
One of the best protections is actually to cover it up so no one knows what it is. And leaving it dirty and neglected looking is better than brand spanking new looking and shiny.
