i have all my lights working now except....

So I got all my lights working with the exception of the brake light. I replaced the bulb but it did not fixt it. My tail light itself lights up, but it does not get brighter when the brakes are applied. Any ideas for things to try?

Re: i have all my lights working now except....

Front is electric switch activated by the lever. Rear has a LITTLE spring along the inside of the frame above the muffler. Make sure the spring is on to pull the brake light switch with the foot pedal. I'm not too sure about the front brake as I have never had a prob. with it. Make sure the bulb is good first thing. The running light can work and the brake side could be burned out.
Good luck.

Highly unlikely that both brake light switches would be bad at the same time. Most likely a corroded socket behind the bulb. You can check both sides of socket with a test light.Job would be easier with two people.

You do know that the tail/stop bulb is a dual filament, don't you? The way you wrote the above seems to indicate that you think it's the same filament for both.

Yes I am aware of that. thats why i replaced the bulb because I figured the brake filament was out. new bulb and no luck. I will check the spring for the back brake and the connection at the handlebar.

Just another thought. If all that does'nt fix it, Trace for broken wires.

If it is an electrical or someother issue it needs repair. Otherwise clean the handle switch and the brake area when the spring is with kerosene or whatever non-smelly thing you use. It will remove dirt. Normally the front hand level never gives any trouble, it is just the back brak from the sprig area that needs adjustment. Rarely, but sometime the bulb is not good and does not make good contact. Hold the brake and move the bulb to see for contact issue.

Re: i have all my lights working now except....

Before you start taking everything apart there are a few things to check to get an idea where the problem is. If you are certain the bulb is OK, (and you can check that by applying 12v to the contacts and see if each filament lights up), then you check the contacts in the socket to see if you get 12V from each of them. Maybe just the inside of the socket is dirty/corroded, needs to be cleaned. If the socket contacts are clean and the brakelight contact has no juice, then you trace that wire back to the next junction and test it there, etc, etc. Look in the wiring diagram for the colors of the wires and what they connect to.The only way you will find your solution is to start at the end and work your way back 'till you find it, tracing the wire run, instead of looking all over randomly for whatever you can find. It is unlikely it is in either of the brakelight switches because for both of them to fail simultaneously would really be rare and you are looking in the wrong place, wasting your time, and getting frustrated in the process,

Re: i have all my lights working now except....

Maybe I failed to mention in this thread that I dont have a brake lever yet.... Turns out I didnt realize that what I thought was my tail light was actually my brake light. I thought that thing was bright. I pushed the little button on the controls and whala, the light worked. Guess I would have figured it out anyway when the brake lever comes in.
Thanks for all the complex responses though.

Turns out I am not nearly as bright as my brakelight :retard:

Duh?? Leaving out significant information is a no no, and nobody can help you if you omit certain facts.
Glad you got it fixed or at least figured out.
