Greetings and Hallucinations!

Hi Everyone,

My name is Travis. I live in Richmond, Virginia, and I became the owner of a brand new 2009 gz250 on 3/5/10. On 3/16/10, I completed and passed the MSF course, and I have put about 100 miles on the bike in the last three days. I ride it to work. i ride it to the store. I ride it to classes (I am 39, but taking some classes at the local Community College). I love this bike. I have noticed that it gets a bit squirrely trying to go above 50, but that may be because the bike is not broken in yet. Anyway, just wanted to say hello. I am stoked that I found this forum.

Probably shouldn't exceed 50 until after the initial 600 mile service. At the rate you are going, that will only be a few weeks.

Then it should "cruise" around 60 with no problem......if the rider can get used to the sound the engine makes.

Oh and welcome.
We are pretty familiar with Hallucinations here.
Some of us can even remember (parts of) the 60's !!

Could be a loose nut between the handlebars and the seat.
:crackup

Enjoy

I was wondering about that. I am not trying to get over 50, but sometimes the traffic makes you go a bit faster than you should. The bike is awesome, but it does make you feel really exposed. Nothing like having some cager crawling up your tailpipe to make you twist the throttle a bit more, ya know?

Re: Greetings and Hallucinations!

If they run up my ass, I slow down even more. If they don't like it they can go around me.

I try to avoid hand signals (the finger, pointing at them, etc.) as that occasionally makes them even more aggressive.

Just keep slowing down (safely) until they pass. (Usually they'll give you the finger) Screw 'em!

Welcome to our nightmare. :skull:

Welcome Travis. The forum is filled with info and experience from all sorts of lunatics. But we are generally harmless.

Re: Greetings and Hallucinations!

Travis,

The bike does tend to get jumpy at higher speeds, but you will get used to it (or at least it will bother you less and less once you realize that you are [probably] not seconds from death.) I was a late starter and a slow learner and it took me about 4 months before I could ride on the freeway without crapping myself. I actually like to ride on the freeway now (albeit with a bigger bike) but I am a lot less apprehensive when the GZ does it's wiggle dance.

Take your time, work your way up to it, don't rush the experience - you are only a newb once. Get a copy of Proficient Motorcycling and get as much practice in as you can (as you are doing.) Picked a good time of year to get started.
