Guys,

This forum has been so much help in getting started. Bought my GZ back in June of last year. Just traded it in with 2,500 miles for a 2009 Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Custom. I bought the GZ after looking for a scooter because gas was so high. Glad I never got a scooter because the GZ made me a motorcycle enthusiast. My daughter planted the seed to get something bigger and I have to tell you the bigger bike rides better, starts easier, and does not have trouble keeping speed when the wind is against you. Riding two up is much easier as well.

The GZ is a great starter and commuter bike but felt is was time to move on.

Thanks for all the advice, info, and commentary.

Good luck with your new ride! The Vulcan 900s' are really nice bikes.

Nice bike! Those Vulcans are pretty light too, aren't they? I sat on a 900 Drifter and was really shocked at how light it was. So, no regrets for leaving behind the GZ?

I'm thinking about moving up too. I"ve been having issues with my GZ and have started browsing craigslist in my downtime. Lots of cheap bikes out there right now, at least here in FL. My plans may change if I can actually get my GZ running normally.

I'm looking at an 2002 800 Drifter myself. They don't make the 800 Vulcans anymore.

Ah the new bike smell. You picked a nice one. The 900 is way more bike than the 800 it replaced. Should have enough power to last you a few years too.

The spec say the dry weight on the 900 is 681 lbs. When I came home on my GZ I would jump off the bike, open the gate, push the bike through and then shut the gate. Now I open the gate, get back on the bike and drive it through. So there is a difference.

There is absolutely no storage on the new bike. Under the seat is only enough room for the tool bag. The rear seat was easier to strap things down on the GZ. I have some Alamo saddle bags ordered though that will fix that problem.
