Hello everyone

My name is Mary and I ride a 2003 GZ250. I Have been riding for about 4 months and I love it. I was a passenger for far too long. I originally wanted a scooter to zip to work and around town but i found that with my heigth (5'1") they were all too tall for me. My husband suggested a 250cc motorcycle and I bought one with 103 miles on it for mothers day. I practiced for 3-4 weeks for the DMV test and passed it the first time. I hated those circles, but they really helped me in parking lots and driveways. I will eventually move up to my husbands bike which is a vulcan 500 after he installs the lowering kit, but I love my GZ250. Now that the shifter is fixed it shifts so smoothly and I am having soo much fun. I ride every day to the school that I work at and the kids think I am the coolest. Thank you everyone for this forum. It was invaluable to help us find and fix the hard shifting problem. .Thanks again, Mary

Yo

Welcome Mary! GZ's are much cooler than a scooter. Great choice in bike & forum.

Ride Safe.

...on 250's

Congrats Mary! You better be careful on that GZ or you might wind up like me. I'm hooked on it! A day without a ride on my bike is like a day without sunshine. I have several thousand miles riding on my GZ now and I think I like each mile better. Seriously, be careful and respect that machine for what it is, but have fun!

See you 'round
Aaron

how I fixed my shifter

Please see my post under the maintenence section. In a nutshell it was the pivot point for the shift lever. It was sticking so bad my husband had to ride it back home and get the car to pick me up. 3 minutes to take apart, clean and grease and all is well again. It shifts as easy as my husbands bike. He has a vulcan 500 which has the same motor and 6 speed tranny as the ninja 500, so his bikes shifts fantastic, and now mine does too.
