Leaky fork seals

Just dealt with a left fork leg that was leaking so I decided to rebuild both. Here's what I did and what it took...

All Balls 56-123 fork seal kit
1qt favorite brand 10WT fork oil
2x jackstands
scissor jack
17mm wrench
2x drywall screws
smaller blade standard screwdriver
and the tools to remove the tire/forks/caliperfender from the bike


I used a scissor jack on the frame and balanced it up and put jackstands under the foot peg mounts.
Removed the tire, brake caliper and fender.
Pulled each fork off, unscrewed the 17mm nut on top and drained the fluid. Pump the leg to get as much fluid out as possible. Put nut back on but not tight.
Popped the dust wiper out with a screwdriver and removed the retaining clip. The oil seal I screwed a drywall screw into it and used a pliers to pull it out, may take a pry to get it loosened up but that got it out.
Installed the new seal, clip and wiper. I have a piece of 2" PVC I think, maybe 1 1/2" that I cut in half and use as a seal driver with a soft mallet.
Remove 17mm nut. With the spring and spacer removed, added 369ml of 10WT fork oil to each leg. Work the leg to get air out of the system, you'll have to do that at least once before you can add all the fluid.
Once it's been freed up of air pockets, install the spring and spacer and tighten the 17mm nut and reassemble accordingly.
