Help. Stator cover glued down w/RTV
Help. Stator cover glued down w/RTV.
I need to replace the stator, but can't get the cover off. Apparently the previous owner didn't want to pay $35 for the gasket, so it looks like he just glued the whole thing with gasket maker. Now I can't get it off. Please give suggestions. Login or Register to Remove Ads |

No easy answer. See if you can get a razor blade on a holder in between the cover and the body of the housing and scrape some of the RTV out. If you can create a gap, you might be able to carefully pry it open by tapping in a small drywall tool (broad flat blade) and get it to pop loose. Don't overdue it as you might gouge the aluminum.
You might talk to one of the mechanics at your local cycle shop or car dealership and ask for suggestions as well. Hope this helps. |
